The old cliche, “We do not live to eat but we eat to live” was on full display on Saturday, July 13, 2024, when the Northeastern Region had a spectacular food sale. Each year the Distant Members Fellowship (DMF) undertakes several projects to raise funds to support the Fellowship. The Northeastern Region believes that food has the propensity to build momentum, unite people, fuel wellbeing, and build community so they’ve developed a tradition of selling food as a primary means of raising funds and gathering community dwellers.
In continuation of its tradition, a dedicated team of DMF volunteers exemplified the power of determination when they organized themselves and prepared a list of delicious Liberian signature dishes to generate funds for the Fellowship. For affordable prices, guests and customers purchased deliciously prepared mouthwatering flavored dishes. Though there were numerous setbacks, the volunteers persisted and completed the task.
Dedicated volunteers of the food sale included:
- Victoria Dahn
- Winnifred Newton Bedell
- Viola M. Montgomery
- Cecelia Kai and family
- Janice Jackson
Though the food sale is over, food sale goers are still reminiscing about the delicious flavors and can’t wait for the next one. Apart from eating, there were valuable lessons learned from that unforgettable food sale. The lessons of momentum building, community engagement and perseverance have now form part of the Northeastern Region’s history books.
